Biography
Bayard Russell, Jr., 30, is a passionate and experienced climber. Russell earned a
Bachelors degree in Anthropology from the University of New Hampshire in 1999. Russell's well rounded education served as a great accompaniment to his vast experience. He has climbed the Quartet Ice Hose, the West Ridge of Mount Hunter, the Harding Route on the Keller Needle, the Salathe Wall, and more recently the Steck-Salathe and the North Summit of Denali. Russell is an AMGA Certified Rock Instructor pursuing full UIAGM certification.
"I joined the Big Expedition to take advantage of what I am good at and use it to help a great cause in a way that otherwise would be impossible.
"To me the challenge of climbing an unclimbed mountain, or even a route on a cliff, offers the opportunity for adventure into the unknown, which is a unique challenge in today's world.
"My father survived thyroid cancer in the early eighties thanks to what are now probably old techniques. The benefits of cancer research were felt by our whole family as my father today lives a healthy life. As he gets his check ups, he continues to benefit from new developments and insights learned since his treatment."
