Kathy Briant My name is Kathy Briant and I have been working with the NCI's Cancer Information Service at the Hutch for a little over four years. My daughter Elliana Briant, who is almost one, joined Hutch Kids last October and is currently in the Sea Turtles classroom. I had heard about Hutch Kids' excellent reputation long before Elliana was born and I felt like I had won the lottery the day I got the call to let me know there was an opening. Because Hutch Kids is such a big part of my daughter's life, I would welcome the opportunity to serve on the Board to work in partnership with other parents and Hutch Kids staff to carry on Hutch Kids' mission. I have served on advisory boards/steering committees and assisted with grant-writing and reviewing, needs assessments, program planning/implementation and evaluation. I would be proud to be part of a team that works to uphold Hutch Kids' high child care standards that provides a nurturing environment for our children. Thank you for your consideration. Liz Briesemeister My daughter, Zoe, has been at Hutch Kids since she was 4 months old and I've now been a Hutch Kids parent for 9 months. I am interested in joining the Board of Directors in order to help enhance communication between the Board, the staff and parents, particularly prospective and new Hutch Kids parents. My academic background is in English and Political Science and I have worked and volunteered in a wide variety of non-profit organizations. I currently work in Regulatory Affairs for the HIV Vaccine Trials Network here at the Hutch. My colleagues would tell you that I am a person who asks helpful questions and generates new ideas about the big picture and also the minute details. I have a natural instinct for and interest in seeking ways to improve processes and increase efficiency and effectiveness. [ Back to Top ] |
Glenn Hampson
I'm Glenn Hampson and I would like to serve on the Hutch Kids' Board. Our two-and-a-half year old son, Zachary (he makes sure we add the "and a-half") has been at Hutch Kids since he was six months old. My wife Drienna and I couldn't be happier with the care and education he's been receiving. He's in Moons & Stars right now under the brilliant and loving care of Shawna and Katie. I'm thrilled with his teachers, and also excited because astronomy was one of my undergraduate majors (so I was able to donate a few classroom decorations). My main area of expertise is marketing and business development, and I'd like to contribute this expertise to Hutch Kids to help with fundraising efforts and effectiveness. For the past few months I've been helping the current board develop an ecommerce website for logo sales. I think we can increase our revenues-and not by asking for more money from parents!-and use these to supplement student programs and staff benefits. I've been the president of a marketing/publishing and business consulting firm for the past 10 years and before this worked in a similar capacity for the World Bank. I have served on several other corporate boards and started several nonprofits over the years. My master's degree is in public administration. It's a real privilege to be a part of the Hutch Kids community, and I appreciate this opportunity to give a little bit back. [ Back to Top ] |
Emily Li My son Delfino (fino) is in the Wildflower classroom and has been at Hutch Kids for over 2 years. I was interested in serving on the Board of Directors last year to learn more about Hutch Kids as an organization and to become more involved in the Hutch Kids community. My area of expertise is in architecture but am interested in continuing to chair the food committee and addressing issues raised in the parent satisfaction survey. [ Back to Top ] |
Lisa Johnson
I am Lisa Johnson, mom of Nathaniel Johnson, who has been at Hutch Kids for about a year and a half and is loving life as a Sea Horse. Nathaniel has benefited in so many ways from his time at Hutch Kids, and I would love to be able to give back to HKCC for the tremendous impact it has had on our family. I look forward to being able to help HKCC continue on a good path, and also to make changes to accommodate the needs of the kids and parents--continuing the work of the food committee, being responsive and proactive about issues raised in the parent survey, doing what we can to retain and show appreciation for the wonderful teachers and staff who play a huge part in making HKCC the place it is. I have worked with the CERC group (Cancer Epidemiology Research Cooperative) in PHS at the Hutch since 1995, going from an undergraduate to grad student to working mom. I also have previously served on the board of a condominium association, heading up an engineering/construction project to underpin one of the buildings; and I also have served on the board of an alumnae group, putting on a charity auction/luncheon and maintaining membership records. Steve Johnson
I'm Steve Johnson and I would like to continue to serve on the Hutch Kids' Board of Directors. Our daughter Olivia is a Rainforest Kid and loves coming to Hutch Kids everyday. In August my wife and I are expecting our second child who will hopefully attend Hutch Kids. I have had the privilege of serving on the board for the past two years working primarily on fundraising efforts but also helping out in other endeavors as needed. In the fundraising area, I have participated in many of the logo sales, initiated relationships between HK and SCCA where HK now sells logo items to patients on a regular basis and I've worked to help develop the logo merchandise on-line store. Last year I helped coordinate the first Gently Used Toy Sale which raised money for extracurricular programs. I have also worked with Nancy to better represent the HK finances and many of these changes are being implemented in the new fiscal year. Serving on the board is a way for me to give back to the Hutch Kids teachers and staff who do such an amazing job with our little ones every single day. The board has started many new projects at Hutch over the past two years that I would like to continue to help solidify; serving for an additional term will allow me to help participate in the success of these projects. I look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve the Hutch Kids community as a board member. [ Back to Top ] |

Jennifer Mahlum My name is Jennifer Mahlum and I have been an accountant in the Finance Department at the Hutch for 10 years. My daughter Emily Mahlum is almost a year old and is currently in the Turtle classroom, which she loves. I would bring to the Board my knowledge of how the Hutch financially supports Hutch Kids. I have also performed the accounting for the Hutch Kids Endowment Fund. I am interested in serving on the Board to be able to give back to a place that has enabled me to continue working while knowing that Emily is in the best place she could be. I have always known that when I had a child, they would be in Hutch Kids. Hutch Kids is such a wonderful place and I would like to contribute my support and help maintain its high standards. Heidi Unruh My name is Heidi Unruh and my daughter Audrey is in the Rainforest Kids room. I've been at the Center since 1999 and Audrey has been at Hutch Kids since she was an infant. Over the past three years, we've really been impressed with Hutch Kids and the quality of the teaching staff. I'm interested in serving on the board so that I can be more involved and to give back to Hutch Kids community. I recently participated on the parent survey board sub-committee and I'm also on the food sub-committee. I'm particularly interested in finding ways to provide healthy, quality snacks in the classrooms, which was one of the main concerns of parents from the parent survey. I look forward to the opportunity to serve on the board of an organization that plays such a big role in our children's early years. [ Back to Top ] |
Sarah Wallace ![]() My name is Sarah Wallace. My youngest son, Gavin, is in the Rainforest kids. My oldest son, Owen is a graduate of Hutch Kids. Both boys have been at Hutch Kids since they were 12 weeks old. Currently, I work in the Clinical Trials Support Office as the Clinical Trials Program Manager for Thoracic and Head & Neck Oncology. I served on the HKCC Board last year and I'm looking forward to another year. [ Back to Top ] |
