Marie & Craig Mundie

The innovative coupling of science and new technology at the Hutchinson Center is accelerating the pace of cancer research. This important work has caught the imagination of Craig and Marie Mundie. The Mundies are so confident in the Hutchinson Center's approach that they made a $1 million challenge gift to encourage others and to establish the Hutchinson Center's new Hartwell Innovation Fund. Under Dr. Hartwell's direction, the fund will allow for rapid responses to new discoveries and the jump-starting of new, lifesaving research initiatives.

"I joined the board of trustees at the Hutchinson Center because I found, in a single meeting with Lee Hartwell, someone who shared the belief that in fact a revolution in medicine was possible and who sought a partnership with the high-technology community to pursue that dream," Craig said. "I don't know if it's possible for someone to get two Nobel Prizes, but I hope that this Innovation Fund will be a part of allowing Lee to try, or at least create an environment at the Hutchinson Center where another Nobel Prize will recognize such a result in the future."
